pull someone's leg to tell someone something that isn't true, as a joke

be on the dole is to be unemployed (and receiving money form the government)

fly off the handle suddenly get very angry, (a mood change)

get into hot water is to be in or get into trouble because you've done something wrong

get the sack to be dismissed from your job, probably because you've done something wrong

give someone the cold shoulder to completely ignore someone

let the cat out of the bag to tell someone a secret, (usually by mistake)

make a mountain out of a molehill to make a slight difficulty seem lika a serious problem

make ends meet to have only just enough money to buy the things you need

pull your socks up to try to improve your work or behaviour because it isn't good enough
